Amelie Silks, Bloomfield, Ontario, Canada

I paint directly on the silk with a special French dye and brushes. Much like a water-colour is made, the colours blend into each other.

When dry the silk is steamed to set the dye permanently into the silk. This makes my work completely colourfast and washable.

Silk is a protein fibre and will dissolve in chlorine. Therefore all silks should be washed in pure soap, preferably colourless soap. Clear dishwashing soap or shampoo are fine.
